This page explains what information MyChristiana collects, why, and how it's protected — in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Information we collect

When you create an account: your name, email address, and anything you add to your profile (photo, bio). When you use the site: comments you post, articles or listings you submit, and basic usage data (page views, device type) used to keep the site running well. If you subscribe or donate, PayFast/PayPal handle your payment details directly — we only receive confirmation that a payment happened, an amount, and a reference, never your card number.

How we use it

  • To run your account, show your name/avatar on your comments and articles, and let you manage your profile.
  • To send push notifications you've opted into (breaking news, loadshedding updates).
  • To review submitted articles, advertisements and reported comments.
  • To send account emails: email confirmation, password resets, and — for verified authors — publishing updates.

We don't sell your information, and we don't share it with third parties beyond the service providers that make the site work (Supabase for hosting the database and authentication, PayFast/PayPal for payments, EskomSePush for loadshedding data).

Cookies and local storage

MyChristiana uses your browser's local storage (not third-party tracking cookies) to remember your login session, language preference, and whether you've dismissed the "install the app" prompt. This data stays on your device.

Your rights

You can view and edit your profile information at any time from your account settings, and you can permanently delete your account and all associated data from the Settings tab on your profile. If you have questions about your data or want to exercise any right under POPIA, contact us.

Data retention

Your account data is kept for as long as your account exists. Deleting your account removes your profile and associated comments. Aggregate, de-identified usage statistics may be retained for site analytics.

Children

MyChristiana isn't directed at children under 18 and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
